Hill family's roots run deep in Southern Illinois. Although they've called Shorewood, in Northern Illinois, home for the past 27 years, countless weekends have been spent at their family farm in Simpson—a tiny Southern Illinois town you might miss if you blink! The farm has been in the family since 1856 and has always held a special place in their hearts. They knew their roots would continue to grow deeper here, but never imagined it would be quite so literally—with grapevines and apple trees! In 2021, the Hills decided to plant 5,000 apple trees on the family farm. As they planned for the orchard's future, they began looking for a facility where they could eventually process their apples. Not expecting to find anything right away, they stumbled upon an old winery for sale just 17 minutes down the road. The property had everything they would eventually need—an existing building, equipment, and plenty of land. There was just one catch: their apple trees were still years away from producing a harvest. While the property didn't serve an immediate need, it sparked an entirely new idea. With a shared love of wine and an enthusiasm for new adventures, the family saw an opportunity to bring a once-thriving winery back to life. What began as a search for an apple-processing facility quickly turned into something much bigger. The Hills purchased the winery in 2022, spent the next two years restoring and reimagining the property, and officially opened Clad & Cordon Vineyard to the public on April 5, 2024. Today, Clad & Cordon Vineyard is operated full-time by sisters Lacey and Caleigh, who have made Southern Illinois their home. The rest of the Hill family—David, Lindsay, Duke, and Alex—remain in Shorewood, but continue to play an active role in the business. What started as an unexpected opportunity has become a family venture built on shared ambition, hard work, and a lasting connection to Southern Illinois. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/e2997e28-a05a-41a9-a8ec-052a4c27b3a6/DSC08130.JPEG Our Story - About Caleigh & Lacey This sister duo eagerly moved to southern Illinois to take on the responsibility and vision of this winery - Lacey from Chicago in 2023 and Caleigh from Denver in 2024. The pursuit of creating a welcoming and impactful business in this region has become a passion of theirs. Caleigh has a background in art education while Lacey’s background is in interior design and mass communication. Their background is probably unorthodox for running a winery, but to us, it makes perfect sense. They bring kindness and humor to the tasting room and grit and creativity to the team. When you visit the tasting room, you’ll almost always see one of these girls behind the bar! https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/fda3a22d-5079-40c0-9d8d-f85cb55fee25/c%26c_circlelogo_creal.png Our Story - WHAT DOES CLAD & CORDON MEAN? After burning through hundreds of ideas, we decided on something that could really represent the family. C-L-A-D stands for the four children in our family: Caleigh, Lacey, Alexandra, and Duke. Clad also means to be well-dressed, and having well-dressed vines is important. Cordon refers to the arms of a grapevine that extend from the trunk. Each arm is pruned to have 4 spurs. Think of the trunk as our parents, David and Lindsay, and the 4 spurs on each cordon as each of their children. The illustration you see on our logo shows two interlocking grape vines that we've curved into very subtle C shapes for Clad & Cordon. You'll also see the 4 spurs on each arm. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/af1077f2-74e3-4c51-bf29-b14a1d3f2f8f/Bella+T+Building.jpg THE HILLS The Hill family's roots run deep in Southern Illinois. What started as an unexpected opportunity has become a family venture built on shared ambition, hard work, and a lasting connection to Southern Illinois. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/e2997e28-a05a-41a9-a8ec-052a4c27b3a6/DSC08130.JPEG Our Story (Copy) - About Caleigh & Lacey This sister duo eagerly moved to southern Illinois to take on the responsibility and vision of this winery - Lacey from Chicago in 2023 and Caleigh from Denver in 2024. When you visit the tasting room, you’ll almost always see one of these girls behind the bar! https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/fda3a22d-5079-40c0-9d8d-f85cb55fee25/c%26c_circlelogo_creal.png Our Story (Copy) - WHAT DOES CLAD & CORDON MEAN? You'll also see the 4 spurs on each arm. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/af1077f2-74e3-4c51-bf29-b14a1d3f2f8f/Bella+T+Building.jpg https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/b8d72a8e-7c8c-4c9c-847b-b41b1b7e0ea2/Dead+Vines.jpg https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/a3a40d58-9e15-4081-af5f-af80db3341aa/CladCordon-56.jpg https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/57ab0cfe-8955-419a-8dcb-d95f6a33054a/IMG_6018.jpg https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/f39b3b07-8515-4188-b8bb-a6d7c515cf26/CladCordon-8.jpg https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/1927fafc-0a7b-43ac-a913-cc9ff13949f2/Bocce+Ball+Demo+2.jpg https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/8859384c-5d50-4c94-8180-7952d50b8d16/CladCordon-19.jpg https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/d835a559-b9fa-43a9-af1c-7c1413f9d393/Bella+T+Patio.jpg https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6222c57a5a26772c74db3a1d/2167a272-c7d3-40d5-b6ae-a286db39086e/Bella+T+Bocce+Ball+Court.jpg https://www.cladandcordon.com/store daily 0.75 2024-06-11
